Straight answers to the questions growers ask most about natural fibre mats.
Any natural fibre mat can grow mould if it stays too wet, has poor airflow or is over-seeded. We cannot promise a mould-free mat. We pack mats dry in sealed bags from fresh production and check for spots or a musty smell before packing. Our grow guide covers bottom watering and airflow.
Thin woven burlap dries quickly. Our mats are needle-punched felt at 300 or 400 GSM. If drying is a problem in your setup, 400 GSM holds more water. Test both with our free samples.
The felt has no lamination or backing, so roots can enter the fibres. Please test with samples using your own seeds and conditions.
No. Roots stay in the mat after harvest. Treat each mat as single-use.
Fibre mats carry little nutrition. Many growers add nutrient solution to the water for better yields, especially on longer crops.
The felt is 100% jute with no mineral oil and no plastic backing.
It depends on rainfall, soil and temperature, so we do not quote a fixed lifespan. Jute thins as it breaks down. Heavier GSM may be possible on request.
Clear existing weeds and roots before laying, and overlap edges. Strong perennial weeds can push through as the jute weakens over time.
We recommend pegging, especially on exposed or windy sites and on slopes.
